Tesla is planning to aggressively expand its space at Fremont factory

Electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla Motors has recently detailed a new master plan for expanding space at its factory in Fremont, California. The plan reveals that the company is planning an aggressive expansion of space at the bustling factory.

The planned expansion of space at the Fremont factory is evidently a part of Tesla’s overly ambitious plan to manufacture, by 2018, ten times more vehicles as compared to the total number of vehicles it produced in 2015.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, city planning documents show that the space at Tesla’s Fremont factory will roughly be doubled in size; with the addition of another 4.6 million square feet of area to the factory’s current area of 4.5 million square feet.

Going by the new master plan detailed by Tesla, new buildings will be added in spaces like the factory’s parking lot and in an open lot adjacent to the test track.

Tesla’s plan to expand the space at the Fremont factory underscores an expected logistics change which will be needed by the company for delivering 500,000 cars a year by 2018 --- a mammoth increase over the 50,000 cars shipped by the company in 2015.
