Samsung’s new $179 Gear Fit 2 activity tracker

Bigwig device maker Samsung has upgraded its Gear Fit activity tracker to a new version --- Gear Fit 2, which is a slightly redesigned and subtly enhanced edition of the original fitness-tracking device.

The new Gear Fit 2 activity tracker can track daily steps, calories, distance, floors climbed, and sleep; and can also deliver all of the notifications on the users’ smartphones to their wrists. However, as of now, the Gear Fit 2 is only fully compatible with Samsung’s Galaxy handsets and Android smartphones running 4.4 or higher versions of the OS.

Priced competitively at $179, the new Gear Fit 2 activity tracker is an easy-to-wear silicone wrap, with a simple snap-in design for closure. It has a comparatively much rounder shape than its predecessor; and is also more seamless, as the lines separating the band from the display module have been notably blurred.

The Gear Fit 2 band is available in two sizes -- large and small. The watch faces on the device can be changed by the users.

Equipped with an awesome 1.5-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen, the Gear Fit 2 comes with Samsung's interactive watch faces. Underneath the screen of Gear Fit 2 is the optical heart rate monitor, which can be set by users to measure their pulse every few minutes. The activity tracker has two side buttons --- the ‘Home’ bottom button; and the ‘Back’ upper button.
