Report: eSports content accounts for 21.3% of Twitch viewership

In a recently released report, market research firm Newzoo has revealed that eSports content accounts for nearly 21.3 percent of viewership on the Amazon Twitch livestreaming platform.

According to the statistics shared by Newzoo in its latest report, Twitch has been witnessing a massive growth due to eSports content. The viewership on the Twitch livestreaming site has, of late, been recording monthly increases of more than 100 million viewers.

Going by the Newzoo estimates, eSports fans viewed 475.5 million hours of eSports content across all franchises during the six-month period between July 2015 and December 2015. The monthly average viewing time for eSports content in the mentioned period was 79 million hours.

The Newzoo report has also drawn attention to the fact that the share of eSports content, vis-a-vis game content streamed by consumers, has been witnessing wide variations --- from 12.7 percent for Hearthstone to 51.9 percent for Dota 2.

As such, the Newzoo report has pointed out that livestreaming platforms like Twitch continuing to work out eSports partnerships, like the recent ones with Psyonix's Rocket League game and Super Evil MegaCorp's Vainglory mobile multiplayer online battle arena game.
