Raspberry Pi announces the sale of its 10 millionth unit; launches official Starter Kit

The Raspberry Pi Foundation has revealed in a Thursday announcement that the sales of its Raspberry Pi mini-computers have hit a new milestone --- 10 million units.

The Raspberry Pi mini-computers were first launched by the organization in 2012. The launch of the pocket-sized computers, priced at $35 or less, underscored an effort by the organization to get more applicants for computer science program offered by the Cambridge University.

The Raspberry Pi Foundation’s intentions behind the launch of the mini-computers was to ensure that low-cost computers could be made available to people worldwide, to facilitate them in creating tools which meet their requirements.

In commemoration of the milestone achievement marking the sale of the 10 millionth unit of the Raspberry Pi mini-computer on Thursday, the Raspberry Pi founder Eben Upton said in a blog post that the organization has launched its first official Raspberry Pi Starter Kit. The kit is now available in the UK for £99; and will be available in the US in the coming weeks for approximately $140.

Moreover, in reference to the new milestone highlighting the sale of 10 millionth Raspberry Pi unit, Upton said: “Thanks to you, we’ve beaten our wildest dreams by three orders of magnitude.”
