Los Angeles Officials Set for Negotiations for the 2024 and 2028 Olympic Games

The officials of the International Olympic Committee recently revealed that they had started discussions with Paris and Los Angeles officials on the hosting of the 2028 Olympic Games. Southern California had been chosen to be the host of the games. Los Angeles, Paris, and IOC officials had informal discussions during a celebratory dinner that was held on 11th July 2017, a few hour after the committee voted to offer the two cities the 2024 and 2028 Games. The vote took place in Lausanne, and it has assured both cities that they will have an opportunity to host the games for the third time. According to the president of IOC, Thomas Bach, the formal talks will the held on 13th and 14th July 2017. He hopes that the negotiations will be completed by the end of August this year.

The IOC will approve the tripartite agreement in September if the Los Angeles and Paris officials agree on the city that will hold the 2024 Olympics and the one that will host the 2028 games. The ratification will be done at a meeting the will be held in Lima, Peru. If the cities do not have an agreement by the end of August, IOC will vote on September 13th on who should be awarded the 2024 Games, and the 2028 Olympic bid will be re-opened. The talks are expected to bear positive results whereby Paris will be the host of the 2024 Games while the 2028 Games will be held in Los Angeles.

According to Bach, the officials of the two cities have reacted amiably, and he hopes the talks will be completed soon. The Paris officials want to host the Olympic Games in 2024 while the mayor of Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti, accepts to wait until 2028. The committee chairman of the Los Angeles 2024 bid, Casey Wasserman, also agrees with the idea of waiting for the next games.

Wasserman believes that the two great cities have different proposals, but they are both dedicated to serving and growing the Olympic and Paralympic Games. He looks forward to the discussions with the Paris and IOC official in the next few weeks. The Los Angeles 2024 chairman hopes that the two cities will transform the opportunity into a superb future. The first phase of the discussions will involve bid leaders, the executive board of IOC, and IOC administrator. The second step will have the leadership of IOC, which will present the contract that will have been signed for the 2024 and 2028 Olympic Games.
