Marquise Goodwin Now Becoming A Favorite Target

If anyone has been loving the new addition of Jimmy Garoppolo to the San Francisco 49ers, it would be none other than wide receiver Marquise Goodwin.

As of late, Goodwin has been one of the ones to benefit the most from Garoppolo becoming a starter for the team, because he's now had two consecutive games with big victories on the road against the Bears and Texans. Goodwin is playing his first season in San Francisco, after having spent the previous four in Buffalo and now his production has soared.

On Sunday, the 49ers traveled to Houston and Goodwin caught six passes from Garoppolo for 106 yards on the day. He was targeted twelve times in the game and dating back to last week, he has caught a total of 14 catches for 205 yards in that span. This is a huge step up for him, considered that in all the weeks prior to this Goodwin only had 27 catches for the year, so these last couple of weeks have been good to him.

The reason for the huge spike in production is simply because Goodwin and Garoppolo are having great chemistry as teammates, the former giving the latter a real deep threat as well as one who can break out a long play. A good sign, because when Goodwin was on the Buffalo Bills roster for four years he wasn't all that productive. Last year, he only had 29 catches for 431 yards and three touchdowns and even worse, he had a total of only six touchdowns as a member of the Bills.

At the end of the game, Goodwin spoke about Garoppolo and mentioned how his mere presence has changed the outlook of the 49ers offense, delivering some much need confidence for the season. Chances are that the team will be looking for more players to aid the receiving corps in the offseason but as of now it's not a big stretch to think that Garoppolo and Goodwin could be a very dangerous offensive combination in the near future.
