Tim Cook hints at Apple’s interest in AR and VR technologies

Apple CEO Tim Cook recently spoke enthusiastically about augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies, during a recent interview with ABC's Robin Roberts.

With Cook describing AR and VR as ‘incredibly interesting’ technologies, the comments made by him in the interview suggest that Apple is apparently interested in AR, and probably even more so in VR.

Cook said that, in his view, AR is “the larger of the two, probably by far” because it has the capability to keep people "present" while consuming the same experience. He also added that there are a few "really cool" VR apps for education and gaming, in which Apple has shown "a lot of interest."

Cook also said that though VR has captured more attention than AR till now, especially because of its evident potential in areas like education and video games, and added that he feels fewer people will show interest in VR in the long run.

Cook told Roberts: "Virtual reality sort of encloses and immerses the person into an experience that can be really cool, but probably has a lower commercial interest over time."
