Spotify account credentials posted on Pastebin in possible security breach

In a report released on Monday, TechCrunch has disclosed that a list containing the account credentials of hundreds of Spotify users was recently posted on the Pastebin website, hinting at a possible security breach.

According to the TechCrunch report, the Spotify account credentials which have been posted on Pastebin include usernames, passwords, emails, account type and other details of Spotify users across the world.

Revealing that the credentials posted on Pastebin are "specific to Spotify," TechCrunch said that the credentials include the type of account as well as the general log-in information of Spotify users.

TechCrunch also said that it did not link to the Pastebin post – which apparently is dated April 23 – because of security reasons.

Meanwhile, in response to TechCrunch’s report, a Spotify representative has told CNET that “Spotify has not been hacked and our user records are secure.” The representative also added that Spotify “regularly” monitors Pastebin and other sites; and added: “When we find Spotify credentials, we first verify that they are authentic, and if they are, we immediately notify affected users to change their passwords.”
