Sony’s mobile business will be further "defocused" in US, Brazil, China, and India

On Friday, Xperia Blog leaked investor presentation slides from the Sony Corporation investor day held recently in Japan. According to the leaked slides, Sony apparently told investors at the event that it plans to further “defocus” its mobile business in the US, and also in Brazil, China, and India.

The leak by Xperia Blog is noteworthy because the language used by Sony in the investor presentation slides clearly hints at Sony’s decision to walk back whatever is remaining of its mobile business in the US.

Going by the indications from the slides, the mentioned international mobile-business contraction will be achieved by Sony in fiscal 2016 -- the company’s fiscal calendar begins on April 1 -- in markets in which it does not see much potential for its mobile devices.

Meanwhile, alongside its further “defocus” of mobile business in the US, Brazil, China and India, Sony will ramp up efforts to sell its handsets in Europe, East Asia, and the Middle East. Sony is hopeful that its mobile business will witness steady profit and growth in Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region.
