Some Parts of California Under Fire

California has been the largest advocate of climate change because of what it has gone through. At the moment, there are some fires that are consuming the state of California. The largest fire at the moment is a fire known as the Canyon Fire. The fire is consuming a populated area and has managed to spread to over 2,000 acres. For starters, 2,000 acres is equivalent to three square miles. Areas that have been affected most by the fire include Riverside Counties and Orange Counties. Firefighters in the state say that the fire began on Monday evening at a place called Cole Canyon. The Cole Canyon is a geographical feature that is shared by the affected counties. This led to mandatory orders by the state to evacuate residents living in these areas. At the moment, close to 1,000 people have been evacuated since Monday. However, the state suspended these mandatory orders on Wednesday allowing people for return to their homes. The fire department of California issued a statement saying that they had managed to control over 20 percent of the fire. This means that the roads that had been closed are now open.

With the Canyon Fire, approximately 1,500 firefighters have been deployed to fight the fire. The firefighters said that they were struggling to bring the fire under control. The situation became worse on Tuesday when the fire picked up due to high winds. Orange County Fire Authority officials say that overnight firefighters on Tuesday managed to carry out an offensive attack on the fire. To make this possible, they used night vision goggles and also used helicopters to drop water into the affected areas. The captain of Orange County Fire Authority Larry Kurtz said that they had not witnessed increasing fires on Wednesday. The residents are currently sheltered at Corona High School in Corona. The residents are from Domingo Ranch and its neighborhood. These people come from approximately 300 homes. Captain Kurtz said that many people still have no idea about what happened to their homes. As a result, crews from the fire department are patrolling the area. At the moment, California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said that they had not recorded any injury or death. State officials also said that improving weather conditions were also helping with the condition. For instance, the wind in the area has slowed down meaning that the fire cannot spread any further.
