Snapchat announces new location-specific stickers that are available in 10 cities at launch

Ephemeral messaging service Snapchat has revealed in a recent announcement that it is introducing a new feature called ‘Geostickers’, to unfold a new way for the users to embellish their snaps and customized their messages.

Geostickers are location-based overlays which Snapchat users can apply to their images before sending them to others. In addition, users can also send Geostickers through the messaging feature of Snapchat.

In announcing the rollout of the new Geostickers feature, Snapchat said that, at launch, the feature is supported in only 10 cities across the world. The location-specific stickers will, in due course of time, be made available by Snapchat for some more cities.

The 10 cities which have Geostickers at launch include San Francisco; Los Angeles; New York; Washington, D.C.; Honolulu; London; Sydney; Paris; São Paulo; and Riyadh.

Since Geostickers are basically caricature-like drawings which highlight landmarks, mock local trends, and draw attention to other notable characteristics of a particular city, they will only show to Snapchat users in the cities they represent.

Snapchat users can find Geostickers for the supported 10 cities by enabling location services within their app's settings. Thereafter, Geostickers will show up alongside the rest of the users’ stickers under the menu which resembles a location pin.
