Sega announces launch date of ‘Yakuza 0’ in North America and Europe

In an announcement made on Wednesday, Sega revealed that the ‘Yakuza 0’ game -- a prequel to all earlier Yakuza iterations -- will be available as a digital and physical release in North America and Europe with effect from January 24, 2017.

The announcement of the Yakuza 0 launch date in North America and Europe comes close on the heels of a previous disclosure by Sega that the game will be launched in the West in early 2017. The game was launched in Japan last year.

According to Sega’s announcement of the launch date of Yakuza 0 in North America and Europe, the game will be exclusively launched only on the PS4 gaming console in the two regions. In Japan, the game is available on both PS3 and PS4.

The events of the forthcoming Yakuza 0 game date back to 1988, prior to the events of the first Yakuza game. Yakuza 0 will basically unfold an early look at returning characters Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima; marking the first time that the Goro Majima character will be playable in a core, numbered game.

About the Yakuza 0 game, Sega said in a press release that the game will enable players to “learn a lot about what inspires Kiryu down the paths he takes in the rest of the Yakuza series;” and added: “Combat styles can be hot-swapped during fights for some of the most intense battles in the Yakuza series to date.”
