Pamela Anderson criticized over her support for an Arizona sheriff

Pamela Anderson is being criticized over her support for an Arizona sheriff having bad reputation for his controversial opinions and racial profiling of Latinos. Joe Arpaio calls himself 'America's Toughest Sheriff', and is also a former Baywatch star. They seemed to be odd friends since they joined together at the Maricopa County Jail with an aim to promote the advantages of an all-vegetarian diet.

According to Arpaio, removing meat from the meals given to over 8,000 inmates has helped in saving estimated $200,000 per year. The jail has been providing vegetarian meals since 16 months. A peanut butter sandwich with oranges and some crackers for brunch are given to inmates and a hot meal consists of different dishes of vegetables and soy for dinner.

Anderson is a vegan since long and is also a spokeswoman for the animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). She said that she looks forward to the meal initiative as a model for prisons and jails all over the country.

Anderson and PETA have been criticized for their involvement with Arpaio, who also has been criticized over his unjust targets on minorities for law enforcement. Arpaio has called himself an 'equal opportunity guy, I lock up everybody'.

According to PETA's Senior Vice President Dan Mathews, the food, which he tasted in a tour of the food factory plant last month, was healthy. He said, 'I was incredibly impressed to see the fresh produce'.

However, according to Fox News affiliate reporter, the carrots in the stew were brown and that the soy appeared to be like 'wood chips.' Arpaio responded that it is possibly just dirt, so it should not be taken seriously.
