Nintendo's ‘Miitomo’ social app launching in US on March 31

Nintendo's ‘Miitomo

Within weeks of the launch of Nintendo's first mobile app - 'Miitomo' - in Japan earlier this month, the app is now scheduled for launch in the US, and a number of other countries across the world, on March 31, 2016.

Miitomo is Nintendo's free-to-start social app which gives users the ability to engage in conversations with friends in a unique way, via the Mii animated characters created by them.

For creating Mii characters to interact with friends using the Miitomo social app, users have to download the free app on their iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, or Android devices. They can then create their distinctive Mii characters by customizing facial features like eyes and hair, and also voice and personality.

Since the Miitomo app unfolds a unique way for users to converse with their friends, the app is already notching up the popularity charts within barely a month of its launch in Japan. In the first three days of its availability, the Miitomo app was downloaded more than 1 million times; with the result that it became the #1 most downloaded free app in the Apple App Store as well as the Google Play store.

Asserting that the launch of the Miitomo app marks Nintendo's "first step into the world of smart devices," Scott Moffitt -- Nintendo of America's Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing -- said: "Miitomo brings the special Nintendo charm and polish that people around the world love to an entirely new format and audience."
