New features rolled out by Twitter for businesses running customer service accounts

In a Thursday announcement, popular microblogging service Twitter said that it is releasing a number of new features for businesses which run customer service accounts, to publicly reveal how businesses interact with customers on the site.

Announcing the new features, Twitter said that the features have been rolled out with the aim to facilitate users in better connecting with businesses which offer customer support via their official Twitter accounts.

According to the information shared by Twitter, businesses whose accounts offer customer service will, with effect from September 15, be able to clearly displaying display response time and hours of availability on their profiles.

Moreover, a new Customer Support settings page on the Twitter Dashboard website will allow businesses to indicate that they offer customer service. When the businesses enable the mentioned settings page, their Twitter profiles will show a ‘Provides Support’ indicator to Twitter users searching for a business's account.

The ‘Provides Support’ indicator will give a business’s account the ability to receive Direct Messages from anyone. As such, the business will be able to send a private message to customers without requesting that customers follow them back.
