Netflix, HBO launch VR apps for Android on Google Play store

In the last one week, virtual reality (VR) apps for Android have been launched by Netflix and HBO on the Google Play online store.

The Netflix VR app was earlier available only on the Oculus Store. However, with Google having released its Daydream View VR headset, the Netflix VR app has now become available for download on the Google Play store as well.

Currently, the Netflix VR app works only with the Google Daydream View VR headset. But, the app will also apparently work with the VR headsets which other hardware manufactures build from the Daydream View blueprints in the future.

Along with the launch of the Netflix VR app for Google’s Daydream platform, HBO has also exclusively launched two VR apps -- the HBO GO VR app and HBO NOW VR app -- on the Daydream platform. For accessing the two apps, users require a subscription to the HBO network as well as a Daydream device.

Highlighting HBO’s GO/NOW VR apps, a description on the Google Play store reads thus: “HBO [GO/NOW] VR is the virtual reality feature that gives you all of HBO on Daydream-supported Android devices to watch your favorite shows and movies in a virtual reality experience.”
