Microsoft to increase Xbox Live Gold subscription cost in six countries in June

According to a Game Informer report, based on the information shared by Microsoft, the cost of Xbox Live Gold subscription is set to increase "in a small number of markets" next month.

As per Microsoft's confirmation to Game Informer, the price of Xbox Live Gold subscription is being increased in six countries on June 20, 2016. These six countries are --- Austria, Hungary, Sweden, Israel, Turkey, and South Africa.

An email received by Game Informer from a South African reader has revealed that the cost of Microsoft's Xbox Live online gaming service in the country is apparently being increased by three times --- from R50 ($3.25 USD) to R159 ($10.33 USD). However, the new Xbox Live Gold prices in other other five countries have not yet been confirmed.

Since the cost of Xbox Live in the US is $9.99, the increase in Xbox Live Gold price in the six mentioned countries apparently underscores a move by Microsoft to bring the conversion cost of the service in the six countries in line with the US price.

Asserting that Xbox Live Gold subscription offers "premium gaming and entertainment service at a fair price," Microsoft said about the imminent price increase in six countries: "We occasionally update pricing in a given market to provide a balance of service and value, and in some instances, meet currency fluctuations within the region."
