Microsoft adds ‘Joust’ to its Xbox One backward compatibility catalog

In a recent announcement made via the Twitter microblogging service, Microsoft’s Major Nelson has revealed that the company has expanded the Xbox One backward compatibility catalog with the addition of another Xbox 360 game --- ‘Joust.’

According to the announcement, the Xbox 360 version of the 1982 arcade game Joust is now playable on the Xbox One console; thanks to the console’s backward compatibility feature.

In announcing that Joust is the latest game to join the Xbox One backward compatibility catalog, Microsoft said that the game will be free as an Xbox One backward compatible game for players who already own its Xbox 360 version.

However, players who do not own the Joust game will be able to play it on the Xbox One console after purchasing it through the Xbox Store for $5.

Meanwhile, so far as the gameplay of the Joust game is concerned, a description of the game reads thus: “Joust arrived at the height of the golden age of arcade games, and swept players off their feet. It presented a novel game play in a novel setting that captured the imagination. The player, mounted on an ostrich sized bird and carrying a lance, must ‘joust’ against enemy players in a battle for air supremacy.”
