Los Angeles Angels Win Series Finale Over Orioles

L.A. Angels

The Los Angeles Angels continued their playoff push on Sunday by winning the finale of their series against the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards. The win keeps the Angels tied for the second wild card position in the American League. The fact that the Angels are in playoff contention in late August is truly amazing if you consider all of the major injuries that the team has suffered this season. They were without Mike Trout for over one month. However, they have been able to overcome all of these injuries and now find themselves in a very realistic position to make the playoffs.

Parker Bridwell allowed a pair of earned runs over his five innings of work to get a no decision. Cam Bedrosian picked up the win in relief. Both Andrelton Simmons and Kole Calhoun blasted home runs in the game. The Angels blew a three-run lead. However, they were able to score a single run in the top of the eighth and hold on for a 5-4 win. Bud Norris pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his 19th save of the year. However, the inning was not without drama. The Orioles got two men on base before Norris was finally able to get out of the jam and end the game.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia thought that his team played hard in this series. However, he did criticize his team for making a few critical mistakes that they should not be making at this point in the season. He reiterated the point that every win is precious when you are in the position the Angels are in. Therefore, he said that his team needs to play smarter down the stretch. Otherwise, they could be sitting at home during the playoffs in October.

The Angels have played very well in the second half of the season. Since the All-Star break, they have won 19 games against 13 defeats. They are now 9-2 over their past 11 games. They lost the first game against the Orioles and rebounded to win the final two games of the series. After the game, the clubhouse of the Angels was filled with smiling faces. The players are really starting to believe that they can do something very special this year if they are able to stay healthy. They are playing their best baseball of he year at a very crucial time. They need to stay focused.
