Hulu launches app for Samsung Gear VR headset

In a move which marks Hulu’s foray into the virtual reality (VR) arena, the streaming service said in a Thursday announcement that it has launched a new app for the Oculus-powered Samsung Gear VR headset.

Announcing the new Hulu VR app designed for Samsung Gear VR headset, which works with Galaxy S7/S7 edge, Galaxy Note5, Galaxy S6/S6 edge and Galaxy S6 edge+ handsets, Hulu said that the app is now available on the Gear VR Oculus Store.

According to Hulu, the app for the Gear VR headset gives users the ability to access Hulu’s 2D content library in a “360-degree” environment. In addition, the app also enables users to access to Hulu’s full catalog of TV shows and movies through a virtual living room.

Initially, the new Hulu VR app for Gear VR headset features more than 25 pieces of VR content from Baobab Studios, Discovery Communications, RYOT, The National Geographic Channel, Las Vegas, Showtime Networks, SilVR Thread, Spoke, Studio Transcendent, The Uprising Creative and Viacom.

Furthermore with the 3D virtual films also available to all the users of the Hulu VR app for Gear VR headset, irrespective of whether or not they not Hulu subscribers, Ben Smith -- Hulu’s Head of Experience -- said in a recent post on the company blog, in reference to the Hulu VR app: “We are super excited about our first steps into VR.”
