Huawei conducts live demo based on its CloudRAN architecture

At the Global Mobile Broadband Forum held in Tokyo last week, Huawei carried out a live demonstration which involved 5G and LTE dual connectivity for a 4K video-on-demand service.

In the live demonstration which was based on Huawei’s CloudRAN architecture, the company achieved single user peak throughput of 21.1Gbps.

Against the backdrop of the demonstration, Huawei drew attention to the fact that the development of new high-bandwidth services – like AR/VR and 4K video streaming and cloud-based services – will necessitate the deployment of 5G new radio technologies first in central hotspots, to ensure that the required capacity is effectively delivered.

With combined 5G and 4G networks having the potential to help operators improve network capacity and coverage in urban areas, Dr Yuefeng Zhou -- CMO of wireless network products at Huawei – said that end users in densely populated urban city areas with sky-scraping buildings and complex roadways need to be guaranteed “a ubiquitous high data rate experience.”

Further pointing out that 3GPP standardization has, of late, made momentous advancement in 5G and LTE dual connectivity, Zhou said: “We expect to strengthen our cooperation with industry partners on 5G innovations based on these real application scenarios.”
