Heat Wave Is Killing People In California

California is known for its warm weather, but the heat wave that they are currently experiencing is something else entirely. This heat wave is so bad that it is literally killing people.

So far, there have been two people who have been reported dead as a direct result of the heat wave according to CNN.

As with most heat related deaths, the two victims were elderly. They were a 72 year old man and an 87 year old woman. People in this age group are more likely to face some of the worst impacts of a heat wave. Doctors say it is a result of the body not being able to regulate the heat that builds up inside because of outside conditions.

San Jose saw a record amount of heat when it hit 103 degrees on Sunday. There remains a heat advisory in that area until Thursday. It is not just California that is facing this particular issue. Large amounts of Arizona and Nevada are also under heat advisory.

This is not the only place where people have been found dead in recent days as a result of heat. Two hikers in New Mexico were also found dead recently and their deaths are also believed to be a result of heat exposure.

The whole western part of the United States has been seeing an unusual amount of heat this season. It is something that people have to take certain precautions in order to keep themselves safe. While the elderly are particularly at risk, anyone can face negative health impacts from being exposed to heat for too long a period of time.

It is important to limit exposure to the heat as much as possible. Keeping trips to a minimum during periods of excessive heat outside is always a good idea. Obviously, staying hydrated matters during times like this as well. If you feel tired or that you have been exposed to heat for too long a period of time, you should get indoors as soon as possible and cool off.

Exercise activities are something that should be limited during this weather as well. Things like sporting events are something to be careful about when the weather is like this as well. Expect this story to continue to develop.
