GE, Microsoft partner to bring GE’s Predix platform to Azure cloud

In a Monday announcement, industrial giant General Electric (GE) and software biggie Microsoft have revealed that they have worked out a partnership under which GE’s Predix platform-as-a-service offering will be brought to the Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform.

The announcement of the partnership was made by GE and Microsoft during the course of Microsoft's Worldwide Partner Conference in Toronto on Monday. At the conference, GE CEO Jeff Immelt talked on-stage with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.

With Predix being GE's operating system and platform designed for the industrial internet, the availability of the Predix platform on the Azure cloud will result in potential additions to the portfolio of Internet of Things (IoT) services offered through Microsoft's cloud platform.

As such, the partnership between GE and Microsoft underscores a substantial push by Microsoft to broaden the reach of its cloud services within the enterprise.

In fact, as a part of their partnership, GE and Microsoft apparently plan to expand the capabilities of Predix on Azure, through the integration of the platform with Azure IoT Suite, Cortana Intelligence Suite, as well as Microsoft business apps, including the newly released Dynamics 365, Office 365, and Power BI.
