Facebook wants to give people power to build global community: Zuckerberg

While Facebook continues to create connections among friends and relatives, the social-networking giant’s co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed a bigger plan to create a global community.

Zuckerberg said they might not have the power to create the desired world immediately, but they could start working on the long term now to create a global community they want.

Speaking on the topic, Zuckerberg said, “We may not have the power to create the world we want immediately, but we can all start working on the long term today … Facebook can do is develop the social infrastructure to give people the power to build a global community that works for all of us.”

He added that Facebook could help people build supportive communities to provide aid during crises, with ways to encourage the public to become better informed.

According to Zuckerberg, global communities are facing many big challenges, including terrorism, pandemics and climate change.

The 32-year-old executive stressed that the greatest opportunities are now global, such as promoting peace and understanding, spreading prosperity and freedom, reducing poverty, and stepping up science.
