Cyanogen is reportedly undergoing massive layoffs and a general restructuring

According to multiple reports, a major general restructuring is currently underway at Cyanogen Inc., the company that makes the alternative operating system for Google’s Android OS.

Going by the reports, Cyanogen is laying of a significant number of its employees as part of its bigger plan to bring about a change in the strategic view of the company. Specifically speaking, 20 percent of Cyanogen's total workforce of nearly 136 people has been laid off in a rather surprising move.

The reports have revealed that the layoffs are currently in progress at Cyanogen; and, that too, on a global scale. The company is reportedly laying off employees in Palo Alto, Seattle, Lisbon and India. Most of the employees who have lost their jobs are the ones who were working on the open source side of Cyanogen’s version of Android.

The massive layoff of almost one-third of the workforce, and reports of a general restructuring of Cyanogen, indicate that the company is evidently facing some problems in accomplishing its ambition of creating a fresh alternative to the Android OS.

Cyanogen has witnessed some success in its efforts to create an Android alternative, especially by bringing CyanogenMod onto the OnePlus One handset for some time. However, otherwise, it has not been easy for the company to gain any notable traction for an alternative Android experience.
