Car Accident

A car accident that occurred on Route 17 in Los Gatos claimed the life of a young boy. Three cars were involved in the accident on Saturday afternoon. There were seven people taken to area hospitals after the accident. Three of those seven are children. Officers responded to the accident that took place near the Avenue Exit just before 1 p.m. A three-year-old boy died in the accident. He was in a car seat and properly strapped into the vehicle that he was riding in, but the impact was so severe that he passed away shortly after being taken to a hospital.

An SUV, truck, and small car were involved in the accident, most of the damage seen in the SUV. This is the vehicle that the young boy was riding in with his family. Officers had to close the left lane of the highway for over an hour so that victims could be taken to local hospitals and so that the debris and vehicles could be cleared from the scene.

One person is in critical condition. This person is likely to make a recovery. Initial reports were that this person was the one who died, but officers have made statements about a three-year-old being the one who was killed. The vehicles were traveling in the southbound lanes. The driver of a box truck slammed into the back of the SUV. Five family members were in the SUV at the time. Officers don't believe that alcohol was a factor in the accident. An investigation started Saturday afternoon and is ongoing to try to determine what happened with the truck driver to cause him to run into the back of the SUV. The SUV was parked on the side of the road at the time when the truck hit the vehicle. There is no word as to whether charges will be filed or not.
