Bungie: All future Destiny updates will be reserved for gamers with modern consoles, starting Aug 2016

In a recent announcement, Bungie has revealed that future updates to the ‘Destiny’ first-person shooter game will not be available for Legacy Consoles --specifically, the PlayStation 3 (PS3) and Xbox 360 consoles -- with effect from August 2016.

According to the announcement, all future updates for the Destiny game will be, beginning this August, reserved only for gamers with modern consoles --- PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Xbox One.

Bungie has further specified that all future Destiny upgrades include all the updates coming to the game in the future as well as all major content releases, and even the forthcoming ‘Destiny: Rise of Iron’ expansion.

Moreover, the announcement also means that the gamers who own Legacy Consoles will also not be able to avail the advantage of weekly Destiny events like the Trials of Osiris, Iron Banner, and all future Live events. In addition, daily events for gamers playing Destiny on Legacy Consoles will also likely be different from the daily events offered to gamers playing the game on PS4 and Xbox One consoles.

Meanwhile, for gamers who want to upgrade from a Legacy Console to a PS4 or Xbox One console, Bungie has noted that such gamers “may need to re-purchase the previous Destiny game or expansions to access Destiny content from the Destiny game or expansions.”
