Apple dominating wireless headphones market with AirPods

Apple Inc. is dominating the wireless headphones market, with its AirPods accounting for more than a quarter of all online market revenue since the company started accepting pre-orders for the product in December, according to a new report.

The newly-released report from Slice Intelligence, which gathered its data from anonymized e-receipts, also revealed that the AirPods pre-order launch was the greatest day for online sales of headphones of the year, surpassing sales on Black Friday sales of the product.

Apple started accepting pre-orders for the $159 AirPods on 13th of December, and the product became an instant hit.

The Cupertino-based tech giant’s AirPods are some of the most refined wireless earbuds that currently available on the market at a bit cheaper than most other similar options, though the product is still quite expensive.

By and large, headphones continue to gain bluetooth connectivity, with Slice claiming that roughly 75 per cent of headphones online purchases made this holiday season were of the wireless variety.

Before the launch of AirPods, Beats occupied 24.1 per cent of online revenue for wireless headphone sales, and Bose, Plantronics and Jaybird followed behind with market shares of 10.5 per cent, 7.8 per cent and 7.45 per cent, respectively.
