14-yr-old Appleton girl planning to die by summer end; family tries to fulfill her final wish

On Thursday, friends and family of Jerika Bolen went to office after decorating Appleton’s Grand Meridian for a Friday night prom. The prom is the last wish of the 14-year-old Appleton girl who has decided to die by summer end. It’s been named ‘J's Last Dance’, and on that night everybody would live as if everything is perfectly alright.

The dance is going to have a candy buffet, cake and cupcakes. The loved ones have decorated everything in the hall black and lime green, ranging from the tablecloths and flower arrangements to even the hanging paper lanterns. To maintain a celebratory tone for the night, there are party favors and hats.

The party’s guest of honor is going to arrive to her prom in a limousine accompanied by a police escort. The event is also going to have a DJ, and performance of a dance group from Milwaukee.

The previous week, the Jen Bolen, mother of the girl, was worried over guest numbers and prayed for a lot of guests to turn up to party to prevent a hollow feel in the open banquet hall. But, all such concerns fade away as Jerika's story exploded.

Jerika has made up her mind to give up and stop fighting spinal muscular atrophy type 2, a terminal disease, and has planned her own death for the end of August, when the she’ll be removed from her life saver: ventilator.

The gala event planned for Friday will follow a week of unexpected celebrity status for the girl. Her decision received response from people worldwide, who read and reacted to her call of stopping treatment of her devastating disease and the sense of peace she thinks death would give her. First reported by The Post-Crescent, the story of the teen has been shared across the world.
